A First Step in the New World Order: Let’s Care for Our Children
There is a palpable air of survival of the fittest out there, and I hate it. We desperately need to transition to a more cooperative society, a “New World Order” in which evolved humans care about all living things. We have to make things more equitable for everyone, meaning most of us, who aren’t filthy rich. So much wealth is inherited, including good health, one of the truest forms of wealth — that the world truly is not built on a level playing field.
Surely, this does not mean that everyone without an Ivy League education, inherited wealth, and impeccable health should just curl up and die.
Surely, this does not mean there are disposable groups of people with no legitimate human needs, who should just go away. Too many are already ‘invisible,’ to those who pretend not to see.
This administration’s recently proposed cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and additional programs for children and adults with disabilities will only deepen these disparities and increase the suffering of families at risk. Our societal safety net isn’t just shrinking — it’s being torn to shreds with a sort of lascivious glee. God help us. God, help us.
