Can’t We Just Forget Politics and Be Friends?

No, not when there is so much at stake

Against my express wishes, a friend of mine set me up on a blind date today with an age-appropriate man who was both appealingly handsome and taller than me. Swallowing my reservations, I proceeded to do all of the work that goes into preparing for my date, and went to meet him at a popular restaurant with an open mind. I swear, I did.

Upon settling at our table, he asked me I’d ever had Covid. I replied with a succinct “yes,” and then asked him the same. His answer…was slightly longer.

“I refused to get the Covid vaccine on religious grounds, because it’s made from aborted fetal tissue and the vaccine is designed to give you serious health problems later in life. So, then, I got Covid. And I’ll tell you, I was sicker than a dog for three days. And then I asked a local rancher I know to get me some Ivermectin. I took that syringe, which was designed for a 1,200-pound animal, and I calculated how much I needed. I took it and the next day, I was cured.”

There is so much to unpack in this statement.

I stayed silent while I ate my salad and thought about how to get through this meal with a stranger in peace.
