Feeling Burnout? 10 Strategies for Recovery
Rest, Self-care, and More of Whatever Floats Your Boat
(Merriam-Webster) Burnout: exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration.
We’ve all visited the flat gray land of I don’t care anymore; leave me alone; I’m done. It feels impossible to move forward with lead feet, an empty cup, and a soul that has been drained. We have nothing left to give, and we want to give up. Often, we don’t even have the strength to put it into words, to type up our letter of resignation and walk away from what feels like “too much.” But recovery is possible. Human beings are nothing if not resilient. We make it through impossible things. We’re survivors.
Recovering from burnout isn’t easy, but you can begin the healing process by taking the first step: allowing yourself the time to rest, practice self-care, and then do more of whatever floats your boat.
- Is there any way you can maintain your chosen job or career, but work fewer hours? Even the work that we love can be physically or mentally taxing. Reducing your work hours will allow more time for activities that replenish your body, mind, and spirit.
