My Criteria for Accepting Facebook Friend Requests from Total Strangers

I’ve been getting a lot of friend requests lately, so I challenged myself to come up with a list of criteria that will help me select the best people to populate my virtual community.

Here’s my list, in no particular order:

  1. Is this person a dog-person, and is there a cute dog in their profile photo?
  2. Is this dude single and age-appropriate, and not, would I still enjoy looking at him every day?
  3. Does he have a 50% or greater chance of being a stalker?
  4. Does her physical appearance threaten my self-esteem?
  5. Is she happily married to someone I find attractive?
  6. Would my constant attraction to her partner cause me to feel annoyed and resentful?
  7. Is this person’s life richer and more interesting than mine?
  8. Conversely, is this person’s life more depressing than mine?
  9. Does this person share similar beliefs, or is their obvious stupidity going to make me irritable or lose my center?
  10. Were any animals harmed in any of the memes on their Facebook page?
