Nature is My Superpower
You wouldn’t like it, he said.
Cities aren’t your thing.
You would be so far from nature.
His excuses fell on deaf ears — because
I would have searched for nature
With every step of my feet on concrete.
And I would have found nature
Everywhere I looked.
Because that is my super-power.
What he really meant was,
I don’t want you to come with me.
I want to get as far away from you as I can.
He did.
And he is still there.
And I am here.
Surrounded by the vast high desert,
And the red rocks he used to say he loved,
And at least one of us is happy.
