Romance for Single Ladies? Why Not?
I wish there were truly a lid for every pot, the most perfect, and available, partner for everyone who wants one. And, I wish that special human felt compelled to shower you with all the romance you crave. In fact, I wish I didn’t have to write this piece, but as a long-time single lady, I feel an obligation to. Because we’re not all so lucky.
There is a lot of talk about selfcare in the popular media, it’s rare to see anyone mention romance in the realm of self-care. The closest scene I can come up with is Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love, cooking herself asparagus and a jammy egg, while wearing her newly purchased eggplant-colored nightie and reading the New York Times.
But you know the feeling in your body and your heart when you are in a romantic setting. You know when all of your senses are engaged, and you feel your heart squeeze a little in the best possible way. But, can you really have romance without a partner? Being single for the better part of ten years, I’d like to believe so. Otherwise, my life would be lacking something pretty essential — and I think I deserve better.
IMO, there’s no substitute for kissing, and I wish I could have experienced many more “meetings of the lips” in my recent life. But in the absence of planting one on a total stranger, kissing hasn’t been available to me, lately, and lately has gone on…
