The Turning

The Earth spins and tilts

As I turn the gentle corner into the

Autumn of my life;

All golds and russets

And pale yellows and

Yes, even some parts

Turning to brown.

Some doors are closing now.

Some of Spring’s verdant hues

Are harder to see.

But I will fill these

Turning months with warmth

And people drawn close.

And I will keep

Plenty of abundance

Stacked high and firm

Against the wall

Of the cold and dark.
