Three HULU Series That Knocked My Socks Off:

Alaska Daily, Tiny Beautiful Things, and The Split

All three of these series have adult subject matter.

The three best Hulu series I’ve watched and loved this year have three things in common: deep truth, passion, and empathy. They also feature stellar actors — Hilary Swank, and Katherine Hahn, and Nicola Walker — realistic plotlines, and poignant conversations. In all three, there’s sort of visible inner dialogue that brings the characters to life in a way that’s special and rare.

The drama series Alaska Daily was so unexpected. I began watching its ten episodes in February, continuing into March, and was instantly hooked. Hilary Swank embodies veteran journalist Eileen Fitzgerald, who is blacklisted from every major US paper for exposing a corrupt member of the military. She’s offered a chance at redemption by her former editor, Stanley (Jeff Perry) — the job of investigating and reporting on the murder of a young indigenous woman for his small Anchorage newspaper. Eileen acts as a reluctant mentor for the paper’s talented young staff (Pablo Castelblanco, Ami Park, Craig Frank), including her investigative partner Roz (Grace Dove), who is also indigenous.In taking on the job, Eileen and Roz expose a larger system of corruption and ultimately…
