We Should Be Aware, Afraid, and Prepared to Protect Those We Love

The people of the United States have seriously underestimated how much RACISM is driving what is happening in our country, in favor of “the economy” argument — and perhaps we should all be learning Afrikaans instead of Russian, or both. Sadly, I predict things will not go well in the next few months for anyone with brown or black skin, and it sickens me.

Any anti-trans legislation is simply to placate the MAGOTs, but I predict there will be rapid executive orders aimed at black and brown people, and I am frightened for them, and extremely pissed off. Overturning interracial marriage, preventing banks from lending mortgages to POC — and perhaps worst, separation of races in schools. Teaching hate. Teaching division. These things are likely to happen, in fairly short order, because they want to install true Apartheid in America. As long as President Musk is in charge, this is the future I see coming. All traces of women and people of color are being removed from many government offices, military offices, and even the Whitehouse.

This is what I think happened sometime in 2008. When President Obama was elected, I think a bunch of disgustingly rich white men met in a shadowy room and swore “never again,” and I think this has been the plan all along. Given what’s happening now rapidly, if chaotically, this is the only thing that makes sense.

For the past five years, I’ve lived in one of the most diverse cities in one of the most diverse states in this country, and I love it beyond imagining: diversity makes us strong, adaptable, rich in culture, and blossoming with creativity — and don’t even get me started on the food. I love my city, state, and country, and I am terrified by the changes I see coming, not only for immigrants, but for people and families who were born here — born with brown skin. (Look for future articles on how Native Americans are already being harassed and even arrested.)

As we face what’s coming, please, please, please be prepared to protect your black and brown friends from the coming storm. Learn to say “no.” Don’t comply in advance. And be prepared to do more. Above all, pay attention.

From the side of true evil, there will be no backing down, no moderation in approach, no conciliatory measures…
