When a Significant Other Doesn’t Care About Your Wants and Needs, It’s Time to Ask Yourself an Important Question
Why Are You Letting Them Play a Significant Role in Your Life?
We made it through Valentine’s Day, and the millions of lonely hearts out there managed to survive, which left me asking an important question: Why are so many of us alone? Because humans can often be selfish and closed off to the needs of others, including our romantic partners. But we can all learn to do better.
Breadcrumbing, gaslighting, and stonewalling are all disastrous behaviors in relationships, even if you haven’t “walked away” from your partner. Also, ask yourself if you’ve treated your partner with contempt, or reacted defensively to his or her attempts to share their concerns. Acccording to the Gottman Institute, if you’ve consistently engaged in any of these behaviors, your relationship is probably doomed. And if you’re on the receiving end of these behaviors, you might want to prepare for some big changes in your life. I hope someone you love has explained that you have a right to have your wants and needs heard, respected, and met, to the best of your partner’s abilities. Otherwise, what is the point?
