Verde Springs, New Mexico — my imagination come to life on a summer morning

In the summer of 2021, I imagined a story about two sisters, much like my sister and myself, who live in bustling cities on opposite ends of the country. Then, Harper and Paige Crawley inherit a derelict former chicken ranch an hour south of Santa Fe, a story that unfolds in The Renaissance Sisters. With hot, dry, and dusty summers, interspersed with snowy winters under brilliant blue skies, relocating to The Land of Enchantment will take some getting used to. But ultimately, the Crawley sisters both decide to make the jump to bucolic Verde Springs, New Mexico, fictional home of the new contemporary women’s fiction trilogy The Inn at Verde Springs.

The tiny town of Verde Springs clusters around an elm-lined square, home to Maggie’s Diner, The Rise and Shine Bakery, Mac’s General Store, and Kaitlyn’s Closet. The surrounding juniper dotted hills are home to the newly established Inn at Verde Springs, the Rodriguez Ranch, and a smattering of young families priced out of Santa Fe and Taos. The nearest ATM can be located in Pecos, home of a National Historic Park, a small lake freshly stocked with trout, and a Benedictine Monastery.

But in Verde Springs, Maggie’s Diner is the hub of the community. Painted bright yellow with dark green…
